Our History

In the fall of 1943, Leon (Babe) Alsworth along with his wife Marry and newborn son, landed in their small floatplane in Hardenburg Bay. Leon, originally from Minnesota, had flown over Lake Clark dozens of times flying mail and other provisions from Anchorage to the canneries surrounding Bristol Bay. His wife, Marry, was an Aleut woman who worked at a cannery in Pilot Point, Alaska, one of Babe's frequent destinations. Together, on the Southwest shore of Hardenburg bay, they started an agricultural homestead which has grown into Port Alsworth, a sprawling community of roughly 180 people, and home to the headquarters of Lake Clark National Park and Preserve.  Leon and Marry's youngest son, Glen Alsworth Sr and his wife Patty Alsworth, founded Lake Clark Air and The Farm Lodge in 1977 after they had moved back to Port Alsworth to take care of the family homestead. Located in their home, the name "The Farm Lodge" was fitting for a lodge in the middle of the Alsworth's agricultural homestead. Like his father before him, Glen Alsworth Jr had grown up on the Alsworth family homestead and did his part to keep it running. Throughout his childhood he worked for his father at both Lake Clark Air and the Farm Lodge. In the early 2000's Glen Jr along with his wife Lelya became the managers of the Farm Lodge and moved it from the family Farm house into the current hillside facility overlooking Hardenburg bay. Together they have built the Farm Lodge into one of the most pristine lodges in southwest Alaska with multiple aircraft and boats for unrivaled explorations, as well as a lavish compound with twelve guest cabins each with a private bath, a guest lounge and a dinning room that serves generous sized meals that are second to none, with the majority of the produce being grown on site.
